Event Description The director of the Pennsylvania Emergency Management Agency will be the keynote speaker at Managing the Disaster, the 6th annual Conference on Homeland and International Security at California University of Pennsylvania.
PEMA Director Glenn M. Cannon will discuss state-level emergency management plans and resources at the conference, scheduled from 8-a.m.-4 p.m. Oct. 23 in the Performance Center of Natali.
Other presentations will address disaster response in a variety of situations:
Managing the Cyber Disaster, such as a successful cyber attack, will be presented by Dr. Raymond Hsieh, a cybercrime expert and a faculty member in Cal U’s Department of Justice, Law and Society.
Managing Mass Casualties and the Trauma Center’s Role in Mitigating the Effects of a Disaster will be discussed by Rick Periandi, director of security at Reading Hospital and Medical Center in Reading, Pa.
Managing Mass Fatalities will be presented by Dr. Karl Williams, chief medial examiner for Allegheny County, Pa.
Managing the Maritime Disaster, including underwater search and recovery operations, will be discussed by Kevin Angelilli, a principal with the International Association of Public Safety Divers. Angelilli is a retired police chief and the author of Public Safety Diving All the Way to the Bottom: For Divers.
The conference is open to professionals in the security and disaster management fields, as well as the general public. Cost is $35; fee includes lunch, beverages and a certificate of completion.
