Event Description:
Despite recent fumbles in the launch of its website, the Affordable Care Act promises to make major changes in the health care industry. But how is the health care market different from most, and what are the future goals of the act?

Find out at an Affordable Care Act teach-in planned for 11 a.m. Nov. 21 in Duda Hall, Room 103. Panelists will give brief presentations on these topics:

- Dr. Edmund Matecki, Department of Business and Economics, will discuss how markets for health care are different than most markets, particularly in terms of asymmetric information and insurance.

- Dr. Craig Smith, Department of History and Political Science, will analyze the Supreme Court's decision upholding the Affordable Care Act and review the positions taken by the justices.

- Dr. Mary O'Conner, Department of Nursing, will discuss the Affordable Care Act's focus on quality care and accountable care, the achievements to date, and current and future goals.

A question-and-answer session will follow. Student participation is encouraged.

This American Democracy Project event is free and open to the public. Co-sponsors are the Department of History and Political Science and the College of Liberal Arts.

Visitor parking is available in the Vulcan Garage, off Third Street near the campus entrance.
