End Date: 9/6/2014End Time: 4:00 PM

Event Description:
California University’s Department of Theatre and Dance, along with Mon Valley Dance Council, will audition performers for roles in Cal U’s holiday production of Miracle on 34th Street.

Auditions will be held Sept. 6 in Steele Hall, on the California University campus in California, Pa.

Based on the 20th Century Fox film, the musical will be directed by Dr. Michele Pagen, chair of the Department of Theatre and Dance. Choreographer is Maria Gismondi.

Male and female performers of all ages and abilities will be considered for acting, singing and dancing roles. Participants should dress appropriately, bring their own shoes, and report to the lobby entrance of the Blaney Theatre, at the rear of Steele Hall, 30 minutes before their scheduled audition times.

Performers auditioning for actor/singer/dancer roles should prepare a selection from musical theatre between 16 and 32 bars in length and arrive ready to dance.

Performers must bring sheet music; no a cappella singing or recorded accompaniment is permitted. Auditions are scheduled as follows:

- Dancers only, ages 6-adult, 10 a.m. to noon: Dancers may be considered for the ensemble; plan to attend an ensemble audition as well. Strong dancers are needed for the Thankgiving Day Parade scene; no singing or acting is required.

- Susan, 10 a.m. to noon: This character (actor/singer/dancer) is a young girl who is “city smart” and wise beyond her years. Performers may be asked to attend a 4 p.m. callback.

- Kris Kringle, 11 a.m. to noon: This character is a charming, peaceful older man who resembles the man, not the myth, of Kris Kringle. Performers may be asked to attend a 4 p.m. callback.

- Children’s ensemble, ages 5-12, 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.: Performers must bring dance clothing and shoes. These children are involved in several musical numbers; they may be asked to attend a 4 p.m. callback.

- Teen and adult ensemble, 2 to 4 p.m.: Performers must bring dance clothing and shoes. Strong dancers (no acting or singing required) are needed for the parade scene; other roles require acting, singing and dancing.

Miracle on 34th Street features book, music and lyrics by Meredith Willson, who also created The Music Man. Performance dates will be Dec. 4-7 in Steele Hall Mainstage Theatre at California University of Pennsylvania.
